Outta the Ether and Into the Frying Pan

Every once in a while an idea will jump out of the ether and directly into my brain, where I assume it's horrified to discover the rotten corpses of previous ideas I thought were marketable but failed to nourish. Sometimes those ideas aren't really my ideas, but instead are an amalgamation of a whole bunch of other people's ideas whom I've blatantly stolen from and haven't realized it yet. I'm not sure where this one lies, but regardless it will die cold and alone if I don't do something with it, so I thought I'd share.

Definition of: Circuitpunk

"Definition: a genre of science fiction set in a world where electricity is the main source of machine power and alternative fuels (especially fossil fuels and coal) have historically never been prevalent; also written circuit-punk.

Aesthetically similar to steampunk, except that electronics adorn individuals rather than traditional steampunk accouterments."

I made up this word (but probably not first) to describe my latest project. Couldn't find any other mention of it on Google so I'm fucking claiming it. I'm sorry but if it doesn't come up within the first 100 Google results, it might as well not exist, even if it does.

So who will be the first person to tell me that someone like Isaac Asimov coined this term 50 years ago while he was doodling in a sketchbook, and that all I made up was a definition so poor it's probably making Noah Webster spin in his grave right now?

Testing the Waters

I'm working on an open-world action-adventure game with an "electric-punk" theme. I've got a selection of characters and some of the gameplay mocked up in a design document created by someone who coincidentally used to be my boss, but I haven't yet chosen an art style.

If there are any character artists out there who can mock something up for me, I'd be interested in perhaps commissioning some designs. I'm visualizing sort of an anime or probably more so American-manga style, so if that's your forte I'd especially like to hear from you.  I don't expect anyone to find me this way, but if they do I'll consider it good fortune.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Despite all the time spent reading CSS, Windows networking, and Eckhart Tolle books I've still managed to squeeze in some video gaming here and there. When the Battlefield Heroes servers came down for maintenance recently however, my routine was interrupted and I had to find something else to enjoy. Along came X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and I was relieved.

It's good to see Raven Software's kept their standards of quality consistent over the years, and Wolverine does not fail to deliver in the quality department. Thanks to the action-paced gameplay, you really get a feel for what being Wolverine could be like, and holy shit is it awesome (most of the time).
